Ph.D. (cultural anthropology), 1929, University of Utrecht, Professor of cultural anthropology, University of Utrecht, 1936 to present; director, Volkenkunding Institut, Utrecht. President, Dutch Society for Psychical Research, 1945-56; charter member, Parapsychological Assn. Dr. Fischer is author of several books concerning anthropology and ethnology, including Inleiding tot de Culturele Anthropologie van Indonesië (Introduction to the Cultural Anthropology of Indonesia; 3rd ed., 1952) and has contributed to such periodicals as American Anthropologist, Nieuw-Guinea-Studiën, Mens en Maatschappij and International Archives of Ethnography. In the field of parapsychology he is particularly interested in clairvoyance and the survival question, and he has written on these subjects for Tijdschrift voor Parapscyhologie.
