Member, Women's Voluntary Servies, English-Speaking Union (elected to board of govenors, 1941); council member, Society for Psychical Research, London. Translator from the Frenh of several plays by Gabriel Marcel (q.v.), six of which have been presented by the British Broadcasing Company, and two produced in London and Dublin.
Long interested in psychical research, Mrs. Heywood became a member of the SPR in 1938 and a member of the SPR Council a few years later. She acted as experimenter for the late Whately Carington (q.v.), has lectured and broadcast mainly on spontaneous case of psi phenomena, and has served as an experimental subject for doctors studying the effects of mescaline. Mrs. Heywood in the author of the book The Sixth Sense (1959, Amer. title, Beyond the Reach of Sense), and of several articles for the SPR Journal. Residence: 35 Chesham Street, London, S.
