Dr. Poortman is particularly concerned with the philosophical background and explanation for parapsychology. His books include Occult Motives in Literature (1937); Drei Vorträge über Philosophie und Parapsychologie (1939); Variaties op een en meer Themata (Collected Essays on Philosophy, Parapsychology and Theosophy, 1947); De Grondparadox 1961). His many articles on parapsychological subjects inclue "Psychophysical Paralellism or Interactionism?" (Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research, 1937); "Mysteries Worlds" (Tijdschrift voor Parapsychologie, 1939, 1940); "Henri Bergson and Parapsycholgy" (Tijdschrift voor Parapsychologie, 1941); "The Feeling of Being Stared At" (Journal of the Society for Psychical Research, London, 1959).
