Lisette Coly Welcomes Third Research Fellow, Dr. James G. Matlock, to the PF

Dr. James G. MatlockThe Parapsychology Foundation welcomes Dr. James G. Matlock as the fourth Research Fellow in the new PF Research Fellow program. Dr. Matlock has an M.L.S. in Archive Studies from the University of Maryland at College Park and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University in anthropology. He served on the staff of the American Society for Psychical Research in New York City in the 1980s and the Rhine Research Center in Durham, North Carolina. His primary interests include the history of parapsychology, the anthropology of extraordinary experience, and survival-related issues, especially reincarnation. His publications have appeared in the Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research, the Journal of Religion and Psychical Research, and the Journal of Parapsychology, among other journals.

Matlock is considered to be an expert on reincarnation traditions and on reincarnation research, having published the definitive literature review of the topic in Stanley Krippner and his colleagues, Advances in Parapsychological Research 6 published in 1990.

Currently writing a book that will be a comprehensive look at reincarnation research, he is also teaching an adult education course, Signs of Reincarnation on The AZIRE online course site. The course, which started on the 20th of April, is a 15-week (semester-long) interdisciplinary offering that draws on anthropology, consciousness studies, and psychical research, among other fields. It is designed as a graduate-level seminar course to introduce participants to academic research on reincarnation (chiefly by Ian Stevenson and his colleagues) and presupposes some acquaintance with academic argument and the scientific method. The course covers all aspects of research on reincarnation, including reincarnation beliefs, methods of case investigation, findings from investigations, and the interpretation of those findings. It includes original lectures as well as readings from the reincarnation and larger scientific literature and involves participation through discussion among participants. It is self-paced with an estimated time commitment of 5-6 hours per week, including discussion periods. He will be taking registrations until this weekend. Contact him or register by clicking here.

Matlock joins previously appointment Research Fellows, Dr. Carlos S. Alvarado, Dr. Nancy L. Zingrone, and Dr. Kathy S. Dalton.
